The Pink Ganesha statue underwent extensive renovation work from the end of May and was completed on June 18th, revealing a beautifully revitalized appearance.
Wat Saman Rattanaram, famous for its enormous Pink Ganesha statue, which is 16 meters wide and 24 meters high, is a temple located in Chachoengsao Province, about an hour and a half’s drive from Bangkok. It was built in 2011 primarily for general worship. This temple was already popular among Thai people as a “blessing temple” known for its incredibly fast fulfillment of wishes. Due to its striking appearance, its popularity has also spread among tourists.
Around the Ganesha statue, there are a total of 14 mouse statues. Eight are located in various directions, and two are positioned in front of the Ganesha statue. These two special mice possess unique abilities, allowing them to see and hear things that are normally invisible or inaudible. Additionally, there are three more mice: a “Ru-see mouse” (Ru-see meaning hermit, ascetic, or philosopher in Thai) behind the Ganesha statue, and two highly popular mice statues near the incense holder, particularly known for bringing good fortune with money.
The mouse statues are color-coded according to the day of the week. To make a wish, you should pray to the mouse that matches the color of your birthday’s day of the week. The method of prayer involves taking off your shoes, stepping onto a small platform, and whispering your wish directly into one of the mouse’s ears. The mice then convey your wish to Ganesha on your behalf. You can whisper into either ear, but the key is to firmly cover the other ear with your hand while whispering, to ensure your wish doesn’t escape. Half-day tours from Bangkok are also available, so it’s recommended to book in advance.
