Loy Krathong 2026 – Thailand’s Festival of Lights
Loy Krathong, one of Thailand’s most enchanting annual festivals, will be celebrated on Tuesday, 24 November 2026, coinciding with the full moon of the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar.
On this magical evening, Thai people gather beside rivers, canals, lakes and beaches to release beautifully decorated krathongs—small floating offerings traditionally made from banana leaves, flowers, a candle and incense. The ritual is a way of giving thanks to the water and symbolically letting go of misfortune and negativity from the past year. For visitors, Loy Krathong offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Thai culture at its most atmospheric, with candlelit waterways, traditional music, cultural performances, markets and spectacular evening celebrations.
Wendy Asia suggestion: Combine Loy Krathong with a Bangkok riverside dinner or evening cruise, or create a special cultural extension to Ayutthaya or Sukhothai for clients wanting to experience Thailand beyond the usual sightseeing program.
