Royal Barge Spectacular (November 2026)
If you’re planning to be in Bangkok in November 2026, the Royal Barge Procession is expected to be one of the year’s most spectacular cultural events.
The Royal Thai Navy has announced that the Royal Barge Procession is scheduled for Friday, 6 November 2026. The procession will accompany His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) on a royal journey to present Kathin robes at Wat Arun, following the annual Buddhist Lent.
What is the Royal Barge Procession?
The Royal Barge Procession (Thai: Phra Ratcha Phithi Phayuhayattra Chonlamark) is one of Thailand’s oldest royal ceremonies, with origins dating back more than 700 years.
The procession normally travels along the Chao Phraya River from the royal landing at Tha Wasukri to Wat Arun, passing many of Bangkok’s most famous landmarks including: Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Riverside districts on both banks of the river. The journey covers roughly 4 km.
Why 2026 is special?
The 2026 procession forms part of the Royal Kathin ceremony and is being held in honor of Her Majesty Queen Suthida’s 48th birthday.
